RFC: FreeRTOS for older-model PDAs?

Posted by Stuart Longland on January 17, 2010
Hi all...

I was wondering if anyone had considered or actually achieved porting a RTOS (e.g. FreeRTOS) onto an older PDA? I'm thinking of doing this as older model PDAs are very common and cheap these days, they have reasonable specs for running things like FreeRTOS, and have some nice peripherals such as touchscreen input and audio.

I remember hearing about uClinux on these things some time back -- in fact I think this was one of the original driving forces behind uClinux. I'm not looking for something quite that fancy -- FreeRTOS looks like a more lightweight alternative. I think this could be a fun project... just wondering if anyone has done anything like this, and has some pointers on how to go about this?

Regards,
Stuart Longland
