Forum spam

Posted by Richard on May 17, 2007
Unfortunately the last few weeks has seen a problem with spam being posted to this forum. I have reported this to SourceForge and have been told that it is a problem across all the SourceForge projects and that they are working on a solution. There is no timescale given though.

In the mean time I am deleting the spam posts as they appear.

You can help by looking up the domain registry information of any URLs that get posted in spam, then emailing the registry provider informing them that their customers are using their services to generate spam. This will normally get the URL removed - but of coarse the spammers then just move on.

The other option is to close the forum to anonymous posts. Presumably requiring people to login prior to posting will stop the spam, but I am not in favour of this option as it also makes the forum less friendly.

Regards.

The forum is now set so that anonymous posts are no longer permitted. Hopefully this can be reversed once SourceForge have overcome the spam problem.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Regards.
